Episode Description
Dr. Keller (Jennifer) is working tirelessly to find a cure for Dr. Carson Beckett so he can be freed from the ancient statis chamber. When she starts to act strangely, everyone believes fatigue is the cause until one morning she's late for her shift. Teyla convinces Rodney to override the door controls to Jennifer's quarters.
What they find horrifies everyone.
Jennifer has become host to a pathogen that's growing out of her body and taking over her quarters, and the Altanis team, along with their new leader Richard Woolsey, must discover a way to stop the pathogen and save Dr. Keller.

Notable Characters
- Carson Beckett : Beckett is finally removed from the stasis chamber and possibly "cured". He also creates the phage that destroys the pathogen threatening the Atlantis base before returning to Earth to recover.
- Richard Woolsey : Assumes command of Atlantis and is quickly forced to make several tough decisions.
Thoughts and Comments About The Seed
This episode introduces Richard Woolsey as the new leader of the Atlantis Expedition. Although I'm sad to see Carter go, I've loved Woolsey since his first introduction as an antagonist to the Stargate Program in Inauguration [Stargate SG-1].
One of my favorite parts of the episode was Woolsey's conversation with Keller during the first briefing. He was abrupt and to the point, and frankly, I thought he was right. His order to her to "make a decision" was an astute observation--and maybe a sign of things to come. Contrast this with Elizabeth Weir's tendency to look uncertain about her choices and you have a commander who just might make a great addition to the Atlantis expedition.
Woolsey's conflicting outlook will make for some good episodes, and Robert Picardo is an excellent actor!
As for the rest of the show, I enjoyed it immensely. The episode wrapped up another dangling thread from a past Atlantis season and I was more grateful for the way it was handled than I can say.
Downloads are an excellent way to stay caught up with your favorite television shows. Watch when you want, not when a television network or cable tv station dictates that you watch.
