Hypercane presented an intriguing new theory to account for the disappearance of a vast number of species from Earth. The show doesn't try to take away from the standard asteroid-strikes-earth-and-kills-dinosaurs supposition. The premise is that the asteroid strike heats the waters of the ocean to such a high degree that mega-hurricanes, or hypercanes form, in turn destroying the ozone layer protecting the Earth and killing off a huge number of Earth's plant and animal populations.
