Chuck Squared: Season 2 of Chuck promises twice the fun

September 01, 2008

Chuck returns on September 29th for its second season, promising to deliver more fun than ever.

The Chuck TV show promises renewed vigor in Season Two

Chuck was without a doubt my favorite new show last season. It's first season run was cut tragically short by the writers' strike. News is out finally that Chuck will be returning to tv soon, on September 29th and we'll have an entire full season of shows to keep us laughing.

The Hollywood Reporter has recently put out some interesting news about Chuck and the second season.

"Chuck"...had a solid but abbreviated first season because of the writers strike.

Knew that...

It's understood that NBC executives have been impressed with what they've seen from the first six episodes of the show's second-season order and decided to hand out an early full-season pickup....

NBC has given a back-nine order to its drama series "Chuck," just over a month before the show's second-season premiere.

This was particularly exciting news to me because me and the rest of my family are such huge fans of the show. I've actually tried to convince my non-watching friends to be sure and watch this season, because I can't imagine anyone not liking what they see. The characters have tons of chemistry. Chuck has one of the best-put-together casts in years. I haven't liked a group of people this much since the Friends.

The new season starts September 29th, at 7 p.m. Central time. I'm psyched, because I love this Monday night show!

Zachary Levi, left, Yvonne Strahovski and Michael Clarke Duncan.Over at the Chicago Tribune website in an older post from June, there are spoilers for some second season goodness. Read on if you don't mind the spoilers. Watch out otherwise, because there are definite hints of things to come on the new season of Chuck.

Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) might be moving in together.

Considering what happened in Season One, this could be fun to play with. Personally, though, I would have liked to see Casey and Morgan living together! Then again, Morgan would surely end up dead. ;-)

"It's twice the action, twice the drama and twice the romance," series star Zachary Levi told TV Guide on Sunday. "It's Chuck squared."

The show's second season, TV Guide reports, will play with the theme of twos. "Chuck dies, twice," Levi told the online magazine. "It's crazy."

  • Sad news—no more Wienerlicious. CIA agent and Chuck's handler Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) will leave the hot dog stand for a new cover job, Levi said.
  • Michael Clarke Duncan will guest star as a baddie while John Larroquette will guest as "a spy debonair who teaches me how to seduce women," Levi told TV Guide.

The news about the full-season pickup is excellent, considering Chuck's creator, Josh Schwartz, believes "the strike impacted the show when we were hitting our stride creatively and really building momentum." [USA Today]

As Zachary Levi says in the same article, "The last episode that was aired really wasn't a finale. It didn't tie up anything." Nope, it didn't. But, really, that's another reason I'm so excited to see the show return soon. There's momentum there to build on, story lines all ready to go forward, and interrupted character moments to resolve. Those give me a reason to watch. I don't plan to miss an episode.

One thing I will say as a last side note, Networks and TV people need to take note of how the DVR has changed tv for so many people. I watch stuff live when it catches my interest but isn't on my have-to-see list. If I absolutely don't want to miss a show, it gets recorded.

I don't watch any of my favorite programs live anymore. I want to be able to see Chuck and my other favorites from start to finish without interruptions--and that includes the commercial content. It's only the stuff that doesn't really matter that I watch live these days. I feel it's important that networks understand this. I'm not the only one with this attitude. The DVR has forever changed my TV viewing habits.
