The Universe

The Universe particularly appeals to my nine year old son. His fascination with science and space make this the perfect educational programming. For myself, however, I like the show because it gives me insight into the many mysteries of life and the planets. My interest is in the formation of the planets, the workings of alien galaxies, and the unexplained phenomena of the vast universe.

My personal favorites of all the 1st and 2nd season episodes include: Alien Planets, Alien Moons, Life and Death of a Star, and Secrets of the Sun.

The Universe has revealed many aspects of the Earth's solar system, our own and alien galaxies, and more, using spectacular visuals and interesting commentary by scientists.

Show Description

Each episode of The Universe includes in-depth explorations of topics as varied as collapsing suns, alien planets, The Milky Way, Earth's moon, and mysteries of the universe.

From the planets to the stars and out to the edge of the unknown, history and science collide in this epic exploration of the Universe and its mysteries. It's a very old universe. Yet just 50 years since man first ventured into outer space, the heavens are yielding their greatest secrets. Robotic rovers give us eyes on the red rock of Mars—NASA probes slam into comets at hyper speed—deep-space telescopes capture violent images of the birth of stars and their collapse into black holes. All have significantly changed the way we see ourselves. We wonder, is there anywhere else out there that that can support life? Using cutting-edge computer graphics, this series brings the universe down to earth to show what life would be like on other planets, and to imagine what kind of life forms might evolve in alien atmospheres. Episodes examine how discoveries were made and the scientists and explorers who dared to venture into the uncharted territory of the universe.

From the mysteries of our own solar system those that surround unexplored galaxies, history and science collide in this ambitious investigation of the Universe.

Questions about the Universe have consumed man since the dawn of time. In the 50 years since humans made their first tentative explorations of space, we have increased our knowledge of the cosmos dramatically, using powerful telescopes, robotic probes, and manned missions. But only recently has computer technology allowed scientists to illustrate in stunning detail their awe-inspiring conclusions. THE UNIVERSE, a groundbreaking series from THE HISTORY CHANNEL®, employs cutting-edge computer-generated imagery to bring distant planets and faraway stars up close, allowing viewers to gaze at black holes and comets, and witness the births and deaths of galaxies and solar systems.

This epic miniseries takes viewers on an exhilarating voyage through the cosmos. From the farthest reaches of distant galaxies back to the familiar face of our moon, THE UNIVERSE brings the mysteries of the heavens down to earth.
