The Stargate Books

I would love to be further along in my reading of the Stargate books, but there are so many of them I didn’t know where to start when I began reading them. I finally decided on Stargate Atlantis and bought several Stargate Atlantis books. I picked them out based on story description and ratings and I haven’t yet been disappointed.

I’ve linked to the book reviews I’ve written for the books I’ve finished reading, but I still have many books to go. I own several more still sitting on my TBR shelf, and I find myself tempted to add more to my collection even before I’ve finished the Stargate Atlantis books I have because some of the books sound so good.

I’ve bolded those books I want to buy ASAP, and italicized those that I already own but haven’t yet read.

New Stargate SG-1 book: Infiltration

Infiltration book coverDespite the fact that Stargate SG-1 ended more than ten years ago, the series is still going in the media tie-in novels. This newest book is set during the time of “The Entity”, season four, and deals with the events leading up to that episode.

Infiltration aims to explain why the Entity chose Sam Carter as its host.

STARGATE SG-1 Infiltration by Susannah Parker Sinard

Why was Major Sam Carter chosen as a host by the alien invader in the STARGATE SG-1 episode “Entity”? In this exciting adventure we discover the mission that led the entity to its fateful decision…

Captured by the Goa’uld Lugh, Carter faces a hard choice: help repair a cloaking device that would give Lugh a dangerous advantage or allow SG-1 to be handed over to the System Lords. But all is not as it seems among the Goa’uld under Lugh’s command, and SG-1 soon find themselves recruited by underground operatives possessing a rare gift that allows them to infiltrate Lugh’s inner circle. However, it is a gift that comes at a terrible price—a price that may yet cost SG-1 their lives.

Meanwhile, the alien entity continues scanning SG-1’s mission reports in its quest to preserve its own life…

I haven’t read this one, but it sounds interesting so I might pick it up for myself. I like the idea of exploring more about the Entity. I’ve always thought that episode could use a follow up.

Hostile Ground by Sally Malcolm and Laura Harper

Stargate SG1-25: Hostile Ground (Apocalypse Series, #1) by Sally Malcolm and Laura Harper

Hostile Ground - Stargate SG-1 - Sally Malcolm and Laura HarperThe description for Hostile Ground

In this first book in the Apocalypse Series, authors Sally Malcolm (SG1: Cost of Honor and Matter of Honor and SGA: Rising) and Laura Harper (co-author of SG1: Sunrise with Sally Malcolm – under the name JF Crane) take SG-1 on a journey to hell – and only time will tell if they can come back.

Watch your step…

It was meant to be an easy mission, a walk in the park. But SG-1’s first trip off-world after Colonel O’Neill’s return from Edora (STARGATE SG-1: One Hundred Days) proves to be anything but easy.

Tapped for a covert assignment, O’Neill must conceal the truth from his team at all costs. So when Dr Daniel Jackson is injured and the mission begins to go awry, tensions quickly reach a breaking point. Stranded on a hostile planet, and desperate to find a way home before it’s too late, O’Neill leads his fractured team on a desperate journey across a barren and forsaken world.

Faced with an enemy more vicious than anything they’ve encountered before, only SG-1’s strength as a unit will keep them alive — if the secret O’Neill is hiding doesn’t tear them apart first…

You can find Hostile Ground at most online book stores.

Stargate SG-1 without General Hammond

Don S. Davis has died, and with his passing, I feel like an essential part of Stargate SG-1 has gone missing. What is Stargate SG-1 without General Hammond? General Hammond, Stargate SG-1To be frank, when changes came to Stargate SG-1 in season seven, I missed Hammond more than I missed Jack at first. Maybe because his leaving was so abrupt, but Jack’s dragged out. By the time Jack became the General, it was a have-to case of him either moving on or ruining the show with his continued absences.

That’s not to say I didn’t miss Jack (Richard Dean Anderson) when he left, because I certainly did. But Hammond had always seemed like such an integral part of the series. I came to like Landry quite well after a while, but he was no Hammond.

I’ve posted news about Don Davis’s death for those who might want to know the details of Davis’s passing.

From tv series to movie; anxious for Stargate Continuum

So, last week I officially preordered Stargate Continuum from Amazon. I will be adding the show to the site soon, and of course, the moment I watch, I’ll be writing and posting a review.

Of all the television shows that could have made it in movie form, I think Stargate has been perfect in that format. I’m anxious to see this new one though since it’s clearly going to be more able to stand alone than the last (which was an excellent wrap up of the Ori story).
